Well i had a thought the other day. When i disconnect the battery n let it sit for awhile n i go hook it all bk up n check the codes it still gives me a code 37 w/o even starting it up n moving it. Does that make it a bonified electrical problem?

ok what rpms are you at when doing 60? how about when your doing 30 and try turning on the lights or something to draw power while the battery is disconnected just in case you have capacitors or something wires up and holding some power...

First off what year and model truck? 1500, 3500?
I had one of those codes when my torque converter failed..... hows the truck drive? Any issues shifting?
try reseating the electrical plug with 8 wires that plugs into your tranny near the shift linkage...
also try driving and manually shifting from 1st to second and then drive and then try Overdrive and let us know it they shift manually..

Its a 98 dakota 3.9l v-6 auto trans. w/OD It doesnt shift on its own. It also attempts to start (from a complete stop) in second gear or drive. I have not noticed if the automatic kick down works or not. I assume it does not. If I shift the transmissionmanually with the shift lever starting in first gear from a complete stop and continue shifting appropriatly w/rpms it does just fine. However it does not shift down or up automatically. I have purchased a shift solenoid and have learned that I can do a resistance test (33ohms) to the installed solenoid prior to replacing it. I have ordered the O/D-Tcc (lock-up?) solenoid combination unit with 2 solenoids together as one unit just incase I should find that it also needs replaced. Im also seeking more trouble shooting advice and would like to know more options available

If it shifts fine manually, I would look long and hard at the governor pressure sensor and solenoid, and while I was in replacing the TCC O/D solenoids (just replace them both...), I think I would consider doing the governor stuff as well. Borg Warner makes heavy duty replacements, that are better than the stock factory pieces.

I have not removed the trans. pan and filter yet. I intend to do it tomarrow. The only reason I'm attemting it is because I was told that the shift solenoid and overdrive solenoid are easily accessed and replaced by only removing the trans. pan and filter.
Is the governer pressure senser troubleshhoting a job that can be done w/out prior knowledge of electrical and minimal mechanical knowledge? I'm capable of following directions thoroughly. I dont have the money to have someone fix or even diagnose the issue for me. I bought the truck two days ago because it was a good deal and I took a buddy w/me who had a scanner which indicated the p0743 and p0753 codes. The local dealership guru told me where the solenoids were located andd suggested that they would be easy to replace. I've since learned that these codes dont neccessarily mean that the particular part that they indicate is the issue but that there could be other issues. How can I be sure that I am making the correct decisions without having to learn by trial and error? I am borrowing the $$ from someone that cant afford to loan it in order to fix this vehicle. Its a 1998 dodge dakota 3.9 v-6 w/4 speed auto. The codes are p0753 and p0743. Please help
