Point of lifting 2WD
I have a 98 2WD dodge ram 1500. I was wanting to install a leveling kit, and was wondering what spacer size to use. 2inch 2.5, or 3inch lift. The 3 inch lift is the least expensive and the 2.5 is the most expensive. Was wondering if the 3 inch leveling spacer would look alright? Thanks. I was reading somewhere else that a locker 2WD is just a good as a unlocked 4WD is that true? Also where would you get a locker diff for that truck? Thanks
That's mainly an opinion answer, I've never seen a test or a video of two exact same trucks, one with a 2wd locker and a 4wd without going through the same stuff. A 2wd with a locker will be good as long as you keep moving and depending on what you're in. My truck will spin both rear tires in sugar sand but 4wd goes right through. Not a locker problem, just not enough surface area. Just buy a winch and drive fast and you'll be fine lol.
Well, the "point" of lifting a 2WD is just as practical as lifting a 4X4... for clearance. Us 2WDs are notoriously low from the factory, much lower than the 4X4s. So I find it a perfect point to lift a 2WD so your not dragging your transmission crossmember across the ground every little bump. Now, how is the 3" lift setup? Is it lift coils? Or is it spacers? If its spacers, 2.5" is going to be the most comfortable. Any higher with spacers and you lose ride comfort, lose coil rebound, etc. And there's also the balljoint geometry. Stock control arms above 2.5" are not adequately designed for the geometry and will eat up balljoints. So the 2.5" spacer might be the most practical if your just looking for a bit of lift
clearance issues was the reason why lifted my truck, as I work in a farm some times need to cross deep ditches. I have a few dents in the transmission crossmember because of some rocks I found in my way at high speed. now I can drive over most places, but not deep mud or very loose sand. I used 3 inches longer coilsprings, and in the rear inverted the lowering hangers and shortened the shackles, but it sits a little lower in the rear. better ride, not sure don't know my truck at stock height, before the lift was lowered, and still have the lowered shocs, now I don't know which shocs get
