differential cover question
hey guys. I'm changing the fluid in my rear axle for two reasons, it hasn't been done for a long time and the cover started to leak like hell. I'm using the RTV gasket maker stuff and my question is do I need to use thread locker on the bolts that hold the cover on? I wouldn't think I would need to but just want to make sure. thanks!

Nope, as a matter of fact I do just about the opposite, I use a dab of diff oil on my finger spread on the threads same as you would an oil filter. I have never broken a diff bolt trying to get it out and am not about to. I've known mechanics to use anti-seize as well. It's never a bad idea to put just a dab of the lube on any bolt that is in an area that sees temperature changes and them diffs can heat up a good bit...
