Unplug the pre-cat O2 sensor, and see if it still does it.

It's suppose to idle somewhere around 650, not 800. What did the OH include? Plenum fix, new or gutted cat, new o2 sensors. Was the fuel sync reset? Was the crank sensor possibly damaged or the wire pinched?

Sorry, the idle is between 600-700. I replaced the crank sensor because I thought that was the problem. The OH is a short block with virgin parts and I installed a new plenum gasket. The cat is new. I don't understand about the fuel sync reset. I did replace the fuel line that connects to the fuel rail. How do I reset the fuel sync?

Default O2 sensors

If my O2 sensors are bad, wouldn't I get Trouble Code for the O2 sensors?

No, not always. And if you had the distributor out, the fuel sync needs to be set with a capable scanner. These links might help.

Thanks for these!! Now installing a camshaft seems more like a task that a mere mortal like me can handle.

I ran my truck on the fwy early this morning to see if it just needed a break in at high rpm, but no dice. When I gun it there seems to be a grinding/clacking sound. I was thinking that maybe the noise is coming from my valves. I know that they are not loose because they would rattle. Would they make a noise if they are too tight?
