Default Tranny problem

I've tried to find other post with the problem i'm having and havent found nothin, any help would be appreciated.

I have a 97 ram 4x4 5.2
I was driving to work came to a stop at the light went to drive and then nothin barely moved engine just reved nursed it into a parking lot pulled the stick and the fluid was burnt. There was no warning.

So it goes into 1st gear and reverse but doesnt move at all I figure the torque converter. engine just revs like its fighting something

I found a great deal on a full rebuilt 5.9 tranny . the trucks in the shop now I went by there today and its the wrong tranny I got just for the fact that he said the governor in mine is electrical and the one i got is mechanical i saw what he meant when he pulled the pan. Anyhow is it possible to swap the parts from the tranny I got to my origional tranny housing to use the electric governor and is my tranny in my truck dicked or any suggestions to check.

Cheers
Matt

Depends on what year the rebuild is. 94 and 95 won't work. What year is the replacement tranny from?

Is the one in my truck now screwed or could somethin be plugged or ? when did the go from mechanical to electric. he said he could probably maybe use my casing and the internals from the other and still use the electrical governor once he gets it out tomorrow im goin by to get the verdict.

Your tranny is toast. And a rebuilt 97 tranny will swap right in , NO problem. Sounds to me like he has a 46RH(94 or 95). You simply can NOT use it.

I found the tranny and brought it to a recommended tranny guy. i was on here to make sure a 5.9 tranny would work with a 5.2 didnt even think of any electrical or mechanical ya know 94-2001 figured it would all be the same

No they are not the same. 46RE tranny 96 up. 94 and 95 use a 46RH. If you get the right year, 5.2 or 5.9 does not matter.

To me it sounds like your old transmission was in limp mode.
