Default D44 measurements

Has anyone ever taken measurements on their D44? I currently own a 2003 Silverado, and will be doing an SAS on it. I'm planning on running a 3-link w/panhard and a 94-99 D44. I'm plugging numbers into my 3-link calculator for the best articulation, and need to know the width of the axle spring pad centerline and width between the control arm mount centerlines. Also the horizontal distance from the axle centerline (from the side of truck) to the control arm mount bolts (axle side), both upper and lower would be nice.

Thanks so much for your all's help!

Awesome. Thanks man.

I was wondering if someone was going to ask that. Reason being because I want to keep my Russell extended steel brake lines, Powerslot slotted rotors, reman'd calipers, and recently replaced Timken bearing units. Truck was stolen and wrecked so all that stuff was replaced not too long ago. Someday I'll put on my big boy pants and go with an 8-lug setup/D60. Right now I just want to run 315/75R16's.

I'll have to mock up the Chevy actuator to match up with the CAD, but it shouldnt be too difficult. I've been told that with correct axle geometry I can get away with the NP246 slip yoke and Chevy Autocrap. What are your thoughts on welding the CAD collar to both inner and outer axle shafts?

You might consider installing one of these.

DANA 44 front differential/axle. DANA is the company that makes them. 44 is the model, or as dodge calls it, a 216.

I saw that 216 reference in the service manual. Was hoping it also had measurements, but I guess they arent really relevant for a factory service manual. I've looked into the Posi-Lok deal. Looks pretty cool and agreed is a viable option.

Yea, sorry. I should have stated that the 216mm is the ring gear size. 248mm for instance is a DANA 60. And that cable will eliminate any issue you have installing the 44 in your truck. I wouldn't weld that ring if you use truck as a daily driver. If just for offroading, you can also buy a full length axle for the passenger side. Not good for on road however.

It would be like driving an older truck around with the hubs locked ALL THE TIME.
