Those Taurus fans draw stupid amperage. I like that I can run the Grand Cherokee fan on a standard 30A relay.

I ran the Taurus fan for years on my v8 s10 with no problems. I did upgrade it to a 100 amp alternator and used 8ga wiring. Never blew the 40a relay. I tried to find a bigger relay initially but they're hard to find so just went with the 40.

yep, you should really consider an alternator upgrade when running the Furd fans, they pull stupid amps.

I have the Flex-a-Light 180 Extreme in my truck, bought at Moe's way back in '05. Been running fine for 6 years now and in conjunction with my 180* thermostat I never even get near 12 o'clock on the temp gauge.

I have a "pick 'n pull" fan from a '00 Grand Cherokee in my garage I give $25 for. My '02 GC Overland has a hydraulic fan, works off the power steering pump. It runs like a champ and cools well, but will be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to replace if/when it goes out. So I have the GC e-fan sitting on stand-by, just have to go to Autozone and drop $30 on a controller when/if need be.

I just went out and measured it - yep, as Backwoods says, it's 19"...

How small was the original alternator since you "upgraded" to 100 amp?

Gotta check them pick 'n pulls man. I got one up in Georgia about 15 miles from my farm property holding onto a set of luggage rack cross rails for my Grand Cherokee off a wrecked one. They are $140 at the dealer, you can be just under $100 before shipping online. These supposedly look brand new, not a spot of rust on them -- $20.
I have a set on my GC now, but I need them as they are for my hard shell luggage carrier for camping and trips. This second set I'm going to fab into a car-top holder for my surf rods. you ever try carrying a 15' surf rod inside an SUV? LOL...

63 amps I think. Used the same alt that was on the donor motor out of an early 80's C10. I used it for a little while with the 63 amp alt and it seemed ok but when the alt went out I got the 100 amp one wire since it was just a little more. The only things it had to run were the e-fan, ignition, and lights. HVAC removed and manual everything. Gotta love simplicity

I don't think I've had an alternator that small since my first car - 66 Mustang, 6 cyl, auto trans, with air. Seems suuuuch a long time ago.........

Why specifically the 00-02 GC fan? Just curious why that is the popular choice. First thought to me would be 98 Grand Cherokee w/5.9L.
