You also live on Planet Earth. I hope you keep a cat in place.

Nope not cats on my truck never was from day one, I had the dealer remove it when new. As this is a Dodge Forum I will stay on topic and not get into the whole environment thing here.

Yea, Plenum's been fixed, just dealing with what it caused while it was leaking. No more oil topping up every week. Well as for the cat, I have heard you can straight pipe it and you can buy trick O2 sensor. I know theres no testing here but I also want my truck to run properly and a mechanic friend of mine said replace the cat. I went to a muffler shop and quoted me 800 to replace the cat and y-pipe. So i'm considering other options as the cat and piping was 600 with 200 labour. I will do it myself but I still don't wanna pay 600 dollars for a bloody cat.

I'll have to buy a fuel pressure device. I believe i'm looking at 2 different problems with this.

And zman, I worded that wrong. Sorry. After I shut the truck off and start it back up it runs fine for 5 and then starts dieing.

I know you worded it wrong.I was JK No biggie. On to the problem. You can get a MagnaFlow cat to install for like 80-100 bucks you know? And even if a muffler shop installed it for you, another 100 is no were near 600 bucks. And btw, get an NTK o2 sensor from RockAuto.

I did some searching and found ebay has a cat system at my doorstep in 2-4 business days for 230. Where can I find this magnaflow cat for 100? I did check out rockauto for there systems but I got to look at international shipping charges.

Is that a good o2 sensor?

As for cleaning up the mess that the leaky plenum caused, the pre o2 sensor and cat should do it?

Location can be a problem as far as cost goes. Go to the MagnaFlow website and look up parts for your truck. Once you have the part #, google and see what's available. Sorry, I didn't notice your location at first.

Hey all, just to keep you informed. I did find a replacement cat; actually the only one in town half decently priced with y-pipe for 290$. I needed my truck back on the road quick. Got the old one out with no troubles. Will install the new one tomorrow and let you know what happens.

Question, if I did straight pipe it would I get more performance? Gas mileage? Etc. I'd rather the cat be in there in the long run but would like more possible HP to pull my 3500 lb boat.

"if I did straight pipe it would I get more performance? Gasmileage?"

Maybe a few horsepower; then again, you might actually lose a few if the computer gets thrown off somehow. At any rate, your 318 will pull a 3,500 boat (plus trailer) just fine. And I've already stated my views on the emissions issue.

Yea, i'm more worried about the check engine light coming on than anything. I'll hook it up properly. I care for the planet as well just wanted to save a few bucks.

Now my truck has never been very great at pulling, struggles alot on some of the hills to maintain highway speed. But I think once this new cat is installed all will be good.
