There are some very good water based parts cleaning products on the market today, do a google search for them.

there should be nothing wrong with putting your parts in a rubbermade type container with Varsol and letting them soak and clean, for a temp one time cleaning this would be a great setup. If it were me i wouldn't be spending the money on a parts cleaner unless you are going to use it all the time. Just my $0.02. Just make sure your used cleaner gets disposed of properly.

+1.... Mine has Castrol water base cleaner in it. (and it works rather well) As a matter of fact. I'm in the garage right now and the lid is closed with a blanket/sheet over it, posting from my laptop that is sitting on top. I'd give you more info, but the empty 5 gallon containers are behind the Mustang, and I can't get to them.

Berryman's is good stuff, but pretty pricey. Never tried the Castrol.

I have used several water based such as some purlpe stuff that is pretty common (can't remember brand name) and several others, but they rank low on satisfaction scale. I may try the Castrol if I can locate locally.

I've had a gallon of Berrymans last a year, I filter it and use it again. I have some forged 408 pisons soaking it some right now.
