You might want to PM him and get his now-expert opinion on how hard it would be to just replace the seals. Seems a shame to shell out $429 and scrap an other-wise fine steering box over a couple of seals.

The seal that is mostl likely to leak is the lower pitman shaft dust seal, and the oil seal. These can be replaced while gearbox in on the truck. Mine also had leak on head, so I pulled it off. I also had a lot of debris in the system, and appearantly water as I could detect rust, which is why I decided to rebuild. also replaced all tie rod ends and picked up ball joints today as I don't think this truck has been in the same zip code as a grease gun since 1999.

Total cost on seal kit was about $20. Hardest part to reseal may be pulling pitman arm (had to replace that also).

I am planning to do a DIY for this after I complete it.....if I complete it successfully.......
