Default Burning some serious oil

96 2500 5.9L recently got the truck running again but now im blowing all kinds of smoke out. Comes out grayish white then gets darker when i step on the gas. Iv heard intake manifold gasket so could it be that or am i looking at an engine overhaul. Also only wants to stay running for a few seconds then cuts out.

Due your plenum and PCV valve first, then compression check. How many miles on the engine?

Can't believe zman didn't jump on the plenum thing first! (and then the add info to sig so we know what has/has not been done!)

I recommend a search for plenum in DIY section.

How many people here that have a blown plenum, is smoking like the OP states? I think the plate would have to fall off to smoke like that. LOL

And even if the plate did fall off, the cat would clog and the truck would not run, way before any smoke.
