I have a 96 1500 4x4 5.9 auto. I put it into drive and it engages fine but the first time i put it into reverse it doesnt start moving till i put some gas to it then it engages really hard. Is this something that can be fixed or is it tranny rebuild time?

 

Have you checked fluid - in Neutral - not in Park?

I would check throttle kickdown cable adjustment then band adjustment.

How long since filter has been changed? It may be due.
