Default Will a 96 ram trans work in a 2000 ram?

I have 3 ram trucks, 1 2500ram for plowing, 1 2000 1500 for personal and plowing and 1 96 1500, mainly for parts with a new trans.
I want to know if I can put the 96 trans in my 2000, and if i need to change the electronic or if it is even possible? I'm new here and not sure if i'm doing this riteso sorry if this is in the wrong area.

Need to swap out the electronics for the newer versions. Might have to change the block the governor pressure sensor/solenoid mounts in as well, as the design changed over the years, as did the electrical connections for the electronics. Aside from that, it'll bolt right in.

I assume the 2000 1500 is 4wd(plowing), so the 96 1500 will also need to be 4wd. And just curious, what is the problem you are having with the 2000 tranny? The torque converter may be an issue also. Use the 2000 TC, Not the old one though. I know some where balanced different. That may be 94 and 95 though.

I wonder if stall is different on TC on the two and the splines are different - from 23 to 26 splines I think (but not 100% sure).

You can check this to verify TC information:

Hope this helps.

The prob with the trans is its slipping in OD and also sometimes in 3 as well. I know my 96 plow truck did this and the trans was cooked and i had it rebuilt. I put some brake fluid in the trans the other day and it stopped slipping, so I am assuming the seals are hard and it has blow by, i KNOW THE BRAKE FLUID IS ONLY A TEMP FIX, so i will either have to sell it or swap in my parts truck trans.

Make sure you flush out the lines and coolers good, before putting the new tranny in.

The old one is most likely full of bad things though.

Well , not sssure yet what to do? The parts truck is actually in good shape and the only thing I've taken off it is the steerin box and the trans cooler, the only thing i don't like about it is its an ext cab with no rear doors, they seem kind of useless to me, ussually turns into a garbage dump back there! i guess I'll pull both trans and compare, sure there must be a way to make it work, but i want it right cause plowin snow is no fun when things break down! lol
