Need Help! Code P0601
I need a little help if anyone can. I just started my truck ( '01 1500 5.2L) and the engine light stayed on. After driving two blocks back to the house I plugged in and retrieved code P0601 which according to the Haynes manual is "PCM Failure" and instructs me to replace it. Are there any other options than to immediately replace it if the vehicle is running fine? Or are there underlying issues to the "failure?" Can anyone recommend where to get a replacement other than the dealer? I've searched around a bit and found others to be about half of what the dealer wants, minus the reprogram cost.
Any and all input is appreciated!
Thanks,
Cody

Just reset the codes, and see if it comes back, if it does, you can get replacement PCMs from the parts store, the junkyard, various places online, or the dealer. The dealer thinks theirs are made of solid platinum though, and charge accordingly....

Quick fix? Salvage yard, but MUST be a 2nd Gen. Pickup.
5.2L/5.9L makes no difference. As long as it's correct as far as a V8 truck.
Of course the one in the yard could be bad from just sitting.
You shouldn't have to reporgram this PCM, as it will probably run like a slug for a few days as it RE-LEARNS what it is now controlling.
This is handy as well!
