Ram SS/T fuel pump test question
My 98 Ram SS/T has under 100K on it. It starts hard after sitting for a few hours or overnight. Cranks for quite a while before engine starts.
I performed the following fuel pressure test:
1- Ignition in the run position. Pump runs for a couple of seconds and gage reads 49 PSI instantly. Pressure drops rather quickly after pump shuts off. Should pressure hold at least for a while after pump stops? is my pressure regulator bad?
2- Pressure steady 49 PSI with engine running.
What do you guys think?

The pressure regulator on top of the pump is bad. It can be replaced, but you should probably do the whole pump.
And btw, please read this thread.

I don't know for sure, but you may check in the FAQ/DIY section and download the service manual. I bet it is in there.
Get the denso unit. (they make the factory ones....) Available at Advance Auto, so, probably just about any parts store. Yeah, they cost more, but, replace it once, and then don't worry about it again for 100K miles or so.
Amen Brother. Denso it is. Do it once and do it right. MADE IN THE USA is high priority for me, but sometimes......... you know how it is.
