96 Dodge Ram 1500 heater question
I just bought this truck. It is my first Dodge truck. The heater works great which is good as it gets really cold here but it only blows hot air. I have directional control but no temp control. I am hoping I just have a vacuum line off somewhere. I plan on removing the control unit to see what is going on back there. Is this a common issue? Also when I accelerate the air is reduced coming out of the vents. Any ideas on what causes this? Any help would be appreciated.

Temp door is controlled by a cable. The axle the door pivots on sticks out a bit from the bottom of the heater box, on the passenger side, just to the right of the trans tunnel. You can put your finger on it, move the temp dial, and see if the axle is moving.
zman17 posted the procedure on adjusting the temp control... procedure is also in the service manual, which you can download from the FAQ section here.
Vent switching is a common problem, there is a thread about that in the FAQ section as well. Look/search for "Wild Vents". Easy fix.

And here is the pic from the 98 service manual, on how to check and adjust the blend door.
