Ok well my drivers side hub assembly went bad and I am in the process of replacing it. Ive done plenty before but this one has been the biggest PITA ever. Ive been spraying it for the past 2 days with PB blaster but it has not helped at all. It took 20 minutes of pounding with a 10lb sledge hammer just to get the rotor off. Now after 2 hours of PB blaster/heat/sledge hammer and alot of dirty talk the assembly has not moved one bit. Im clueless as to what to try next. Any ideas guys?

 

Get three bolts of the same thread(so you don't destroy the oem bolts). Thread them in (to within a 1/4") and use a steel rod or piece of metal the correct length, and use the power steering to to break it free. Only a small amount at a time on each bolt.

 

Are you talking about the bolts for the bearing itself?

Don't forget to clean everything good and use Anti Seize compound when reinstalling everything. And I hope you have a manual, so you can torque everything to the right specs.

 

Well it took using the power steering and hitting it with a hammer to break it free. Got it all cleaned up and put back together now. I do have the manual and am just waiting on a torque wrench to get here then that project is done. Then onto plugs and wires.. That thing was rusted on there really really bad, worse than ive ever seen

 

I am right in the middle of the same thing. It is day 14. I have seen this before and they junked it...I will not do that..Gonna try the bolt thing Friday night. Any pointers?

 

Wear eye protection.

Snap on makes an air hammer bit for pounding on the bolt flanges so you don't bugger up your bolts - they don't seem to work as well as the power steering trick.

 

I was able to remove two of the three bolts, and on the third, I stripped the head. Being the impatient kind, I cut the old hub free, however I am unable to get the third bolt out.. I think I would be able to knock it out, but it's not budging... Any Ideas? Also, what size bolts are they, since I'm going to have to replace one...
