Being a 01 it has a death flash , its a overwrite of the pcm that kills your performance , dodge did this to fix minor problems but problems were still there . They dis it too elimanate ping of a blown plenum

Back to the original question: There should not be any oil on the plenum plate. And this oil is what casues the cat to clog and fouls upstraem O2 sensor. The solution is to replace plenum plate with 1/4" aluminum plate and new felpro gasket. Plate can be found on ebay for $50. Replace cat (or cut out, and Heyman said, depending on regulations where you live) and replace O2 sensor, and get a tune to get rid of death flash (I went with SCT from hemifever.com).

It is also recommended to replace water pump and timing set as you are down to this when you pull the intake to repair plenum. Not that much money for the peace of mind and improved performance.

This will restore the power that you are missing. Money well spent imho.

Death flash was a bandaid fix for other problems the truck had. Yours prolly came with it from the factory....... An SCT tuner would probably REALLY surprise you. Not only does it kill the death flash, it also disposes of torque management. (dodges answer to putting in weak transmissions.....) There is a thread in the FAQ section that goes into more detail.

Back to the original thread changing topic: I get 13.5 mpg around town with 3.55's and 33's with a stick and I'd be happy with 25.
