Thats the problem with almost ALL seals... Cheap! But the labor necessary to install sometimes means 6 hours ripping out a transmission on your back!!!!

thats what iw as afraid you guys might say but im kinda glad you did because looking at the pan this time after draining my oil (for the third time) i noticed some small rubber pieces so guess what im gonna start doing. Dropping my tranny, pulling off my flywheel and replacing my rear main seal. fun fun :/

What kind of pan gasket did you use? I ran into this issue, thinking it was the rear main when it was actually the pan gasket. The gasket I had was very, very soft, almost too rubbery. The replacement is of stiff construction, meaning it will hold its form instead of being a dangly mess. I dabbed some sealant in the corners of the rear of the pan where it curves and my leak was fixed.

you dont need to pull the transmission to replace the rear main seal. just dropp the pan, remove the rear cap and take it out.

for some pointers and a how to look HERE.

well everything is bolted back up and torqued to specs. i will let everyone know the end result in the morning but this shade tree mechanic is going to the bar, drinking a few cold ones and then going to be young and stupid. as far as my ram goes, she will be sleeping tonight so the RTV will fully set and will be cranked and driven in the morning.
