Default Engine Trouble

Excellent site, glad I found it!

I have a 2001 Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.2 and manual 5-speed that is giving me some problems. Symptoms:

-Starts and runs very smooth, then idle will drop real low to almost stalling and then rev real high and drop to normal. Engine will do this a few times and clear up. When driving, engine will loose power and start popping thru the carb. Engine can be reved up at any time to clear up. Symptoms seem to go away when engine reaches full temp.

Already changed: plugs, cap, rotor, wires, pcv, down stream o2 sensor. Code for the down straem O2 sensor was present, but problem continues after sensor was replaced and code cleared.

Appreciate any help I can get. I dont want to just keep throwing parts at.

Welcome to DF

You should replace the up stream o2, test the TPS, per Haynes manual and download the free service manual in the FAQ/DIY section https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...e-manuals.html

Clean the IAC , remove the TB to do so. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-r...n-the-iac.html

While the TB is off, use a small mirror and look around inside your intake manifold and read this thread, https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...um-thread.html which will most likely relate to why the downstream o2 threw a code.
