No sound on an after market head unit indicates a bad speaker. The stock speakers are rated at between 10-15 watts peak. Depending on the head unit, you are realistically looking at between 15-24 watts rms. It will blow a speaker quickly. That, or one of your speakers are going to ground. I would look into new speakers first. As for the original post, make a different ground. It could be the factory ground strap is bad or not connected well.

I don't mean for the thread jack, but I have trouble with the radio staying on. I'll kill the engine and pull the key and it will shut off like it should, but then once in a while it will turn back on and I have to shut off manually. Now I got s*** fer brains when it comes to electrical stuff (dosen't help to be colorblind) but is this a ground issue, I shouldnt have power to the radio when the key is off should I?

if aftermarket, you have a constant 12V on your ignition/accessory line.

Oh it is an aftermarket one, so is the problem with the radio itself?

Depends on how much you want to spend and what sound you are looking for. I was always partial to aftermarket Infinity's. I also like the Alpine Type R's, although they are pricey and probably too deep for your truck door, if they are factory replacements. It also depends on if you are going to add an amp. All around good speaker, is the Infinity Reference Series.

That is what I used when I was doing mobile electronics for a living, 8 yrs ago. They held up to a 85 Watt Rms 4 channel amp really well too.
