Need help...Truck not running right
Changing IAC is a 10 minute job....but you know that already. Timing chain will last - who knows. Depends on how truck is treated. Don't know that there is a scientific MTBF number out there. What brand IAC did you install? Maybe someone here has good/bad experience with different brands. Throttle cable seems like a JY item as dealer probably wants a bloody fortune for it.
Dealer service depts often play "musical parts swap" on customer money....

yea thats what im saying...i was told i needed a new timing chain then when i questioned it i was told that i dont really "need" it but it is stretched a little...and the iac i bought was from pep boys...dont remember the name exactly. are these gonna keep charging me diagnostic fees everytime they replace something and it doesnt fix the problem?
Go there, pay for what they have done, and get your truck back. That is just outrageous for what all they are doing. Don't let them bend you over any further. Throwing parts at it, and telling you it probably isn't going to fix it, isn't helping. You can do that yourself, and it won't be costing you a hundred bucks an hour.
I'm gettin in here late and a little lost. Its using oil and coolant, right? How does the IAC have anything to do with that? Regardless, I have an OEM IAC pulled of a junk 96. Give me your address and I'll mail it .Free, you pay postage. Get that sumbitch back from the dealer. In my experience, dealers screw you in a ridiculous manner once the vehicle is a few yrs old. If nothing else, try to find an honest shop. One not affiliated with Chrysler. Once the warranty is up, forget about the dealer, IMO.

and thx for the iac (much appreciated) but i already gave them the go ahead on putting in the new oem iac, so ill see what they tell me tomorrow when i get the call...hopefully for some freak reason this fixes the problem...if not im asking them wtf what i paid 300+ for and taking my truck back...i mean what else could i do? what did i pay 2hrs in diagnostics for? im basically getting the truck back in the same boat i gave it to them in...i thought bringing it to dodge would be a guaranteed fix but i guess i was wrong...well first time taking any car to the dealer and lesson well learned.
OK 2SSick. As HeyYou said, get your truck back after you settle for waht they have done. Talk to service manager first, and tell him about the timing chain issue, and the fact that they replaced a new part, and did not fix the truck. Let him know (politely) that you are very dissatisfied with their service and will not be returning as they appear not to be able to resolve the problem with your truck.
Also, go to the top of page and click UserCP and click Edit Signature and enter the information on your truck such as year, engine, trans, etc. It makes it easier for people to help you.
Make a list of things you have done. Did you do compression test, and if so, what was the result. Take things one step at a time. There are so many knowledgeable folks here that are willing to help you fix this.
Also, maybe an instructor from the school program could offer some advice or assist you with some of the testing, such as fuel sync as you mentioned.

Sorry if I ranted about the dealer. Bad experience. I too thought the dodge dealer would be the dodge experts. A couple of hundred bucks in diagnostic fees later, I changed the master cylinder myself and resolved the problem. Hopefully your experience will be better. Not all dealers are the same, I'm sure. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
I think many of us have had bad experiences from dealers and independent garages. Dishonest or unintelligent folks work in all disciplines. It is a challenge to find a shop that has honest AND intelligent mechanics.
I had to drive 400 miles to Houston last spring as a Ford dealer there was hijacking my step-son. That is one reason I really like DF. People here offer lots of help and are conscious about recommending parts swapping - the first choice of some shops.

ok...well they replaced the iac motor and the trucks still running like crap...what a shock! he tells me that "the trucks still stalling but the new iac is responded where the old one wasnt, so we're making progress...the next step we want to take is to pull the instake manifold off and check around because you have a vacuum leak"...soo basically they are doing the same **** i already did! i always thought i had a vacuum leak because i heard a whistling sound whenever i lightly gave it gas...but when i tested it at school off the brake booster it was in spec...but now that i did the intake manifold maybe the gaskets shifted when i put the intake on...after i change the manifold gaskets and reinstalled the intake i did check for leaks with soapy water but couldnt find anything so i assumed it was good...im getting my truck back tomorrow morning and my friend and i both have off cause of the holiday so we are gonna vacuum test it and try spraying some propane around as the other watches the stft on my scanner...see what happens
