Default Whirring noise

My 2000 Ram Sport, 5.9l 4X4 has a whirring noise coming from under the truck just behind the cab on the passenger side. My brother thinks it's the fuel pump, I say exhaust leak. It makes the noise in park and while driving. There aren't any codes coming up, and the MIL isn't lit. Any ideas?

It doesn't sound like an electrical whir. It sounds like a small exhaust leak, but we are unable to locate one.

Okay. Tried that and no change. It almost sounds like the headlight alert when you turn the vehicle off with the lights on. Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Ok try putting your ear to the bottom of the tank and c if the noise gets louder if u don't want to stick you ear to it get a wrench and hold your hand at one end and stick the other to the tank and put your ear to your hand it magnifies the sound

No big man it's probably the filter on the bottom of the pump not the pump itself it's starving for fuel drop the tank and clean the filter

Thumbs up

I bought a new fuel pump from Napa for $220 and replaced it. The noise is gone! It took some work getting the gas tank out, and back in, but all in all wasn't bad. Thhanks for the help in diagnosing the problem! Back on the road!
