Default Issues starting

1999 5.9L pickup.

Around Thursday I noticed that when I turned the ignition it was taking a second or 2 longer to start. Once it was running there were no issues. By Saturday it wouldn't start. Point being whatever happened was gradual, not one day it started, the next it didn't. I've switched out the battery with a known good one and still wouldn't start. I took the starter off and had it tested and it passed. Initially they thought it sounded odd but then tested one out of the box and figured it sounded the same. Looking through these forums I saw something about a starter fuse under the hood, replaced it, no luck. The engine tries to turn over but is kind of sluggish, like the battery was weak or the starter was bad...but that doesn't appear to be the case, I'm certainly prone to misdiagnosing things though. Really want to try a different starter but just can't afford to troubleshoot that way.

any thoughts?

Clean all the power feed connections between the battery, and starter. (fat cable.) Cable should go from battery to PDC, and PDC to starter. Also make sure your starter has a good ground. If you want, pull is off, clean everything up nice, and reinstall. Also check the ground cable from battery to engine.

Make sure the battery is fully charged. One other thing. The problem with having a starter tested, is that there is NO load on it. So it may very well be bad.

I do as mentioned and make sure the battery is fully charged and clean connections really good. Worst case with starter if you get a new one and it doesnt fix the problem is you can take it back and just tell them it didn't fix the problem. I just had this issue with my truck a week ago and it ended up being a broken wire and mine was also a gradual thing. So definitely be sure be sure to check that also. There is also a starter relay under the hood but it doesn't sound like that's the case. Heyyou and zman though both know what they're talking about, so be sure to try whatever they suggest!

I don't like spending other people's money, at least on DF.
