Default engine tune up. spark plugs wires when to replace them

I've been reading on the for the diy on a few things and I've been wondering since I bought my ram when I should replace the spark plugs. I've done a good amount of work on vehicles but I've never replaced the spark plugs. I was wondering when should I replace the spark plugs? I'm going to check the fsm when I get home but being that my truck has 143k on it who knows if its been done or not. I know I needed a feeler gauge to replace them and all but how often should I do it. What all should be done to do a tune up on this truck? Plugs wires distribuator I'm assuming? Any other advice would be awesome

Your going to get lots of op on this. I do full tune ups twice a year, plugs, cap, rotor, wires(only once a year if they test ok), Spring and fall, cap and rotor every three months. Yea lots of the new stuff/parts say it will last for three or four years NOT. For simple piece of mind thats what I do, is it overkill yes.

yeah i figure there are going to be alot of opinion especially in regards to what type of plugs wires and so on. But I'm trying to get a consensus on how often it should be done.

I can scan it and post it(maintenance schedule) right out of the owners manual if you like. As for parts have a look in the diy area for polls on what parts people are using.

FSM should have recommended service intervals, but they assume "normal" driving, and that is such a huge variable. Will depend on how you use your truck, lots of driving, heavy loading, etc. FSM would be a starting point. Owner's Manual aslo has this info. (if you have one).

I dont have an owners manual and I'm not on my home computer where I have my FSM. At the same time I was looking for the general opinion as the owners manual and FSM sometime have some bs in them. I believe in the better safe then sorry method also and never follow and of the general use. I almost always go by heavy duty use. Owners manuals also say to change the oil under general use every 9k which I think is stupid but to each his own.

Unless you totally abuse your truck. Once a year is more then enough.

Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, is a good tune up. Check your coil too.

thanks thats what I was looking for. Seems alot of mechanics are saying that you hardly ever have to replace any of this stuff now as most plugs are "100,000" plugs and so on. Sounds dumb to me so I wanted to get an idea on here.

I run copper plugs in mine so I change them about once a year. Depends on mileage. For cap/rotor pull it off and see how it looks. Wires and coil are easy enough to test with a multimeter.

Anyone else have any input on this? I looked at the factory service manual and it only listed replacing the spark plugs at 90k or so nothing else. I definitely want to do a tune up and make sure everything is good on here.
