Rearend replacement
Hi i got a 1997 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.9 4wd the other night my rear driver side wheel flew off doing like 40 to make a long story short i need a new rearend problem is how can i tell what kind of rearend and ratio i got etc.. I looked under the hood but the sticker is messed up and cant really make up the words. Second question is there any rearend thatll be a direct bolt on with the rotor and caliper brake assembly. Thank you
In your glove box should be a sticker that has information on it about the truck;, rear end type, gear ratio, etc... check there first. There is a sticker on the axle too, if there's anything of it left.
And is all else fails request a build sheet from Dodge.
Edit: Request a build sheet from Dodge anyway.

Put "requesting a build sheet" in the comment box. Takes a day or two to receive a response.

I don't know about the rotor and caliper direct bolt in (assuming you're looking for one with rear disc brakes). Any 94 to 01 ram should be a direct bolt in replacement. Look for gear ratio ID tags on the front and rear axle cover bolts. Most of them came with 3.55 gears. If you can't read these, contact dealer with VIN number and they should be able to tell you the gear ratio. But, I bet its 3.55 gear ratio. 9 out of 10 or more were.
