Neither of those, it is a slider/roll-up. It's a Pace-Edwards JackRabbit.

You will notice near the bottom of that link, they actually make a rail system that works with sliding covers (called Explorer Series Rails). I originally thought they didn't have one for the cover I have, but I looked again and it appears now they do. That would actually be a pretty good option, so I am now considering it. Only problem is, it is pricey, and does't include the cross rails/bars and towers still needed. But would look good I think, and would allow for easy disconnect of the cargo bin if I needed. Hmmmmm.

That is pretty slick and I'd recommend that. I couldn't find the price.

Cross rails and bars would be easy off craigslist. Your choice of Yaks or Thule or other. I was looking earlier for any baskets out my way. lol Only a Rola showed up in the search.

I did some pricing just now. For my truck, looks like the best I could find is $289 shipped to my door for the Explorer Series rails. Then would have to buy towers and cross bars (or make my own cross bars). That's not that bad actually.

These Yakima Load Warrior baskets are pretty nice. Beefy too. If you can find a deal on one like I did, i'd recommend it. You can buy inserts for them too that make them bigger if you need.

So finally decided to go with a specific Yakima system after comparing my options, talking with the guys over at Rack Attack, and comparing prices. The other piece of this that I didn't mention is that a few times a year, I also use a topper on my truck. So I need a system that can disconnect from the bed rails and leave them clean/flush to allow the topper to set on the bed rails with no interference. Did a bunch of research, and the best system for that requirement (and the other requirements already mentioned in this thread) is:

Yakima Landing Pad 6
Yakima Control Towers
78" Cross bars (cut to exact length I need)
End Caps and lock

If you buy this all new, it would cost $370. Compared to Thule, other Yakima options, and even the Pace Edwards option I mentioned earlier in this thread, this is the cheapest way to go. However, i'm already scoring some deals to make it even cheaper.

Purchased 78" Cross bars today - retail $80. I paid $65 shipped.
Purchased Yakima end caps and locks - retail for about $60. I paid $50 from a local bike shop.
Purchased Yakima control towers - retail for $165. I paid $80 off Craigslist.

Still need to get the landing pads for the control towers, and that should be it. With the deals I am getting on this equip, it is coming in about the same (if not cheaper) then if I where to fabricate it myself using stuff from the hardware store that I looked at. Building it myself would take a lot longer though, so I decided to go this route since i'm pretty busy this time of year.

I think I will have this system all put together by beginning of next week.

Picked up the last piece I needed today to build this sapre tire carrier - the landing pads for the control towers. I now have all of the parts, with the exception of a few that are in the mail that should arrive by early next week.
I hope to have the entire thing put together by wed. Will post pics.

Man I cant wait to see some pictures!

Also have you thought about mounting the rack on top of the roof? Or even on top of the camper? Ive always wanted a camper on my truck, id also install some cab running lights on the back to look like a hummer

Maybe mount some lights on all sides of the rack for night wheelin!

I know of a simple design to make the entire rack hinge out of the way., i habe built 1 before. Trying to find pics. It had two cotter pins on the driver side and opened upwards to perfendicular to the ground. I motorized the one that i built, bur could just as easily hace used a gas strut, or even a kickstand type mecanism to hold it upright.

My truck is tall enough as it is, don't need to add more height to the roof. And I only use my camper shell a couple times of year. I got it cheap, and it is white, so it doesn't match my truck. So I only use it when I absolutley have to. That would be tall up on top of it too.

Would love to see pics. I have several homemade designs that I put on paper, and may work on for the future. But this will get me set up for now until I have time for those more long term projects.
