Default Joys of a New Truck..

Doing some work on the truck.. noticed a pretty solid leak in the power steering pump. The leak is coming from the shaft that connects to the pulley, and since I'll have to take everything off to fix the shaft, I may as well replace the pump since I'm there.

My questions for the forum is..

1. Can a leaky pump lead a symptom of "clunking" when turning.. it only happens when the truck turns one direction on a slope, so its not consistent.

2. Is there anything else I should replace as a maintenance item while I have the pump off, such as the return lines or anything like that?

For the clunking, check the end of the steering column where it exits the firewall. There should be no play. And also the lower front shock bolts may be loose.

Replace pump. Be careful pulling the pulley and do not beat the pulley onto nes pump shaft.
