Default 1997 2500 Transfer Case Question

ok i have a 97 ram 2500 HD with a 360 5spd and 4x4. my t case is shot. and i found another one for $500 and i dont know if it will work or not. i got ahold of the guy and got the tag info off his tcase and i have my info.

he also told me his came out of a 2500 hd with a 360 and he thinks a 47re. so an auto.

i need to knwo if tcases are swappable between the nv4500 and the automatics.

or will i need to get the exact number of spline counts?

I'm pretty sure new t-cases are in the 5-600 range. And they are swappable but, again I'm nearly 100% sure, the shaft teeth (ratio?) numbers have to be altered. Some came with 23 and some came with 27 I think.
