I live in Colorado where it can get below zero in the winter time. Never had a code from the 180 tstat. Plenty of heat in the cab too.

 

So no one else has had this problem?

Also I know what the thermostat does, I didnt ask that question.

And my truck has never had a heating problem, I guess ill just clear the code and see if it comes back up.

Keep in mind that the code, like many, probably requires more then one condition to be met before it triggers the code. So some combination of variables probably caused the code, not just the temp of the coolant.

 

The coolant temp ain't the only critter capable of triggering that there 1281... You haven't moved your IAT have you?

 

isn't there a coolant temp sensor on our trucks? If there is, that may be a place to look. just a thought

 

i had the same issue 2 weeks with the 180 stat. i have a SCT and sean saud the run the 180, with the CEL on and no heat i had to put the stock stat back in. i need heat when and if drive the truck for the winter.

 

I would suspect the coolant temp sensor. Can you watch live data on your scanner or just check codes? Also you don't have to run antifreeze and water at 50/50. I usually run mine about 70/30. Water is better for cooling than antifreeze. A 50/50 mix will give you a higher boiling point and lower freezing point. I would flush it out and fill it with distilled water though.

 

No sir I havent.
But the iat sensor was kinda dirty when I installed my 50mm tb, I just cleaned it with a rag and carb cleaner. I guess ill see how much it is to replace that sensor and the coolant temp sensor.

I couldnt remove the coolant sensor when I fixed the plenum, guess ill just soak it for a day or two with pb blaster.

Ill report back after I fix it for future search button users! Lol

 

I would recommend coolant at a 50/50 mix also. This is optimun freeze and boiling point. It does not effet the temperature of the water, but just the boling point and freezing point. Here in West Texas, we see both extremes. I also run a 180 stat, and have no problem getting heat. Temp sensor is a good suspect.
