Default 1st to 2nd shifting

seems the trans has a difficult time going from 1st to 2nd. it will shift fine under hard acceleration, but with light throttle or when re-applying throttle after a rolling turn, the rpms skip around and the truck seems to hesitate. not sure if that makes sense but hopefully, TIA.

first check fluid level in neutral with engine running..
It could be a failing governor pressure solenoid or sensor its a very common failure.
Or your bands may need adjustment? How many miles since the maintenance was last done to the transmission? I've read they should be serviced every 30k and bands checked however I've also read the bands dont need adjustment till 90k...not sure which is true.

Also get a Haynes manual and an analog volt meter and test the TPS.

The only service I've ever done is change the oil and filter. Should I take it an have it serviced?

I've replaced thd tps 3 times already. Can u think of why it could keep getting screwed up? Do you think changing from a 275/70/17 to 315/70/17 tire could be hurting the trans and tps?

Does it fix the problem when you replace the TPS? And 315's are kind of big for 4:10 gears.

You do know there is a free 2001 FSM download in the FAQ/DIY section right? Here is the procedure from my 98 FSM. But do yourself a favor, and get Haynes and download the FSM.
