bedside weight capabilities

Wow, I have an atv rack that sits on the bed. Doesn't put much on tailgate, but other 3 sides take it all. With the rack and 2 atvs its about a thousand pounds.
Been doing it for a few years and have no probs. I see carpet or pipe racks that don't look like they ever come off holding more weight.
Gonna be getting a new truck in a year, and trying to see if its ok, or if I should be looking into another option for the new truck.

Per side. Think about it, millions of 200-250lb guys sit on the sides of their beds every day and never dent it or hurt it a bit. Plus if the weight is evenly distributed (contacting the bed rails all the way around) then I'm sure you could go a good bit higher without an issue (like maybe up to about 1000 pounds).
If you get something like that then don't forget some padding under it (thick rubber) to save the paint. It wouldn't hurt to throw a few straps under it to tie it down to the tie down points in the bed just for a little added security as well.
