Any easy way to see if that is the problem? Like I said I need to get this stuff done by Sat.

 

There is a TSB in the FAQ/DIY section with a diagram. May be able to look at engine in the dark with it running and see if you see it arcing.

 

It might not be, but when I hear cylinder 8 misfire I think cracked head.

I replaced the cat today. Drive home from friend's house (about 20 mins) misfired twice. So now I'm confused. I was really hoping that's what it was.

 

If it is a cracked head, will #8 cyl constantly misfire? I had cyl #8 missfire when my plenum was blown really bad the 1st time, after the fix it didn't show up again till the cat clogged, showed up again. After replacing the cat it is gone again

 

How'd the #8 plug look after the cat was replaced? After i did my cat I checked that plug it was fouled. Replaced it and so far so good...

 

I didn't check the plug I didn't even think of it because it was only 2 weeks ago since I changed them all. I drove it to school and back today (5-10 drive on highway) and it didn't misfire once. Usually dose.

 

I was looking into buying a Used Dodge Ram 1500 and the dealer I was buying it from said the reason the CEL was on was because of a misfire in cyl #8 the wire might be arching or the plug needs to be replaced. I thought it was an isolated case until I came across this site with a lot of people having the same issue. What is the usual outcome, having to replace a cat or is it something worse like a cracked cylinder head. It is a 1998 Ram 1500 5.2 4x4 w/140k miles on it. Total of 9in lift with brand new 38's on them. Trying to think if it would be worth it to take a chance or I would be opening a pandoras box. If I wanted to throw money away I would have bought a boat!

That's a sign that the plenum is blown, and the cat is beginning to clog. Plenum repair is pretty straightforward, check the stickied thread at the top of this forum, and I do believe there is a DIY in the FAQ section as well. If you have some mechanical ability, a basic set of tools, and some spare time...... It's eminently doable.
