Default brakes feel stiff

It sucks that I have to have two threads going at once on seemingly unrelated issues, but this truck is driving me up an f'ing wall. I recently changed front pads and rotors, and initially, the brake pedal felt kind of mushy. Eventually it started stiffening up, and it felt like the brakes were getting more bite. Suddenly, 1 out of every 10 times I step on the brake pedal, it feels abnormally stiff, and it seems like braking power isn't quite up to par. If I release the brake pedal and step on it again quickly, it feels normal again. I'm wondering if it is possible for the brake pistons in a single caliper to push out at different rates, causing the pad to bind. Any ideas?

An obvious question only b/c you didn't state it and don't know if you did the change out or not. The question is...did you bleed the brakes properly?

if you had any binding, then I would think you'd get some thumping kinda sounds and feeling.

Bleeding was going to be my next move, but I've never heard of having to bleed the brakes after a simple pad change. I don't see how air can get in the system from a pad change, but yes, that's going to be my first troubleshooting move. I was just curious about the pads binding because it kind of feels like the pad binds, not allowing the pistons to go out all the way and causing the pedal to stiffen up, but as soon as you release pressure and reapply, everything is fine...
