Default Thinking of Removing Cat.

Hey guys,

I am thinking of just cutting out my Cat. to avoid/fix any issues I may/may not have. I am thinking of just putting up some of the flexible piping I saw at the auto part store. I am just looking to do something quick and cheap and something I could do on my own, as I am not much of a mechanic.

I am wondering about the o2 sensor though. I saw the DIY on how to fool the o2 sensor with a spark plug fouling kit but at the end of the guide, I saw the o2 sensor was plugged back into the piping. Is there any other ways of not tripping the CEL with out the o2 sensor and Cat?

Like I said, I suck when it comes to this stuff and I am lookin' for a cheap and easy solution. I may just end up having a muffler shop put on a straight piece of pipe after I cut off the Cat. Maybe he would have a spot in the pipe for the o2 sensor fix.

Thanks in advance!

You do not want to remove you're o2 senor, you mileage will suffer. I ran without my cat and unplugged my senor for about a week and it did not run the best and mileage sucked. I dont know much about the flex pipe but i would strongly advise keeping the o2 in. It may be possible to fab a nut into the pipe to thread the sensor in i would think

^^^ plus 1. Also if you do cut it out, I would not suggest using the flex pipe. Use standard piping or gut it and reinstall.

I thought I had a clogged cat, cut it off with a grinder, it sucked, I had to torch the bolts off the exhaust manifolds just to get the pipes off to re weld it and I hollowed it out, it sounds cool it has a nice tone to it, but I have o2 codes popping up.

Running without an oxygen sensor is just paying way too much to get down the road. The PCM will keep you in open loop mode, running way too rich, and making way too little power.

Never put flex ahead of the last restriction (cat, muffler, sharpish bend) in your exhaust. It'll leak and dump exhaust gases right where you're most likely to inhale them yourself.

My advice: Do it right or don't bother.
