Default gdstock....

I will also check Autozone too as that is where I got my new serpentine belt after I replaced the thermostat and put in the new heater core.

I definitely am not afraid to get my hands dirty and my brother's neighbor knows quite a bit about autos too and helped me immensely in changing out the heater core.

Thanks again to everyone and I will keep everyone informed as to what is going on and how things turn out.

Here you go....
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...er=9048_0_2558_

If you check VWandDodge's tread on rebuilding the pump with the components you show, you will see that the $49.00 may be worth the price - and a lifetime warranty.

I know I will catch it for Duralast, but I have never had a problem with one of these.

Default Thanks again...

gdstock....

Thanks again!!

I have an autozone maybe 4-5 miles away and will definitely check it out. Might have to wait until Thursday to get it which is when I get paid... and then put it in over the weekend.

I will definitely keep everyone up to date and keep checking back for any other suggestions.

This site ROCKS!!! (and saves us "do-it-yourself'ers" some coin!! $$$)

Default Just wanted to keep everyone updated...

Just wanted to keep everyone updated as to what is going on....

Get paid tomorrow and will be making a visit to Autozone shortly afterward. Tentative date to put pump in is this coming Sunday. Thank goodness I have the use of the neighbors indoor heated garage as the temps are suppose to be in the 02/30's.

Will let everyone know how is goes. Is there an actual thread on this site about replacing the power steering pump?

Thanks again to everyone!!!

Default Success!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I now have power steering again and that my arms look like Popeye!!!

Got the whole power steering pump assembly (re-man) at an Advanced Auto Parts for 44.99 I believe. The darn core charge was 30 bucks and was 45 bucks to get the pulley puller. But got the core charge and the charge for the pulley puller back.

One warning... be careful when you take the bolt out that has a couple of grounds attached to it as we actually broke off both of the connectors that were screwed onto the bolt (what do you expect from a truck that has 325,000 miles on it!). On one we put a new connector... but the other we soldered back on and he held really well. Also... there is a small pipe (line) that comes out of the water pump that was wiggled around some which caused it to leak. Sort of sweated it out as to not knowing if we had water pump issues then... but all we had to do was take out another bolt that held that line in and replace the gasket and re-seat that pipe part of the line that goes into the pump.

All in all... it took about 4-5 hours with a trip back to the store in there somewheres. It probably would have taken a couple hours less if we had not have messed up the negative ground lines that were connected to one of the 4 bolts that takes the pump housing off.

Total cost was 44.99 for the re-manufactured pump assembly plus a couple clamps and electrical connectors along with a gallon of 100% anti-freeze due to the loss of some anti-freeze when we put the new gaskets on the water pump line pipe... and add in a quart of power steering fluid. Total cost was about 70-75 bucks. Not sure what it would have been taking it into any shop... but definitely could not have had it done for that price!!!

Again... thanks to everyone that gave help. I now have my power steering back. Although... now I don't know what I am going to do to exercise my arms!! Hehehe!!

This site ROCKS!!!!

Of the 325,000 miles how many are/were on the original motor and transmission? Just curious.

Default Well.....

Believe it or not.... ALL of them. I have babied her. Put synthetic oil in on the very first oil change and have been running it ever since.

I have had more than one person tell me that the 318 engines are pretty darn good engines!!!

Yeah.... I am one of the lucky ones!!! (Knock on wood!!)
