"if it doesnt smell really bad its the wrong stuff" Thats funny! I remember one day working at my dads I was doing some rearend stuff and saw my dad had some gear oil but when i opened it it didnt smell. So I called my dad and he laughed and told me the same thing, "if it doesnt smell really bad its the wrong stuff"...

I spilled a little gear oil in the back of my jeep once, and it smelled until the day I sold it.

Yea whatever you do, wear cloths you dont want to wear anywhere else.... Once that stuff gets on clothing or carpets or whatever... You will never get the smell out.. ever..

They should consider putting some fragrences in that oil haha.. make it smell like flowers !!

Water doesn't dilute the scent much. If anything, I think it makes it worse......

When I was working at a little indy shop here, I was doing rear wheel seals on a one ton pickup. About half way thru the job, I ran out of smokes, so, went up to the gas station to get a pack....... it was rather funny the looks I got from folks in line. I smelled HORRID. One guy even suggested I take a shower... I told him: "I plan to, right after work. I mean, after all, it would be rather pointless to take a shower, and then go back working on that diff, now wouldn't it?"

He shut up. (the lady behind the counter, that knew me pretty well, just giggled behind her hand.)

Ever smoke that crap? I was having a smoke before when changing the oil and didn't know I didn't get all the gear oil off my hands until I took a drag. It taste worse that it smells.

I'm thinkin' being a mechanic for a large percentage of my life, there aren't too many fluids/solids/whatevers on a car that I HAVEN'T sampled......

No, I don't view that as a "good thing"™
