I think its federal law. The manufactures use "special" rivits for it that we civilians cannot obtain legally.

My old dash was so busted up, I just drilled holes in new dash and pushed toe original rivets into the new holes (didn't want to dig our the rivet gun from the bottom of the tool box).

It prbably is federal now that yoummention it.

So I may have gotten lucky. Even a blind hog gets an acorn once in a while!

Thought I remembered a pic of it. The rivits are stared, correct? I haven't paid attention lately. I know they used to be.

If you ever get pulled over and if they check the VIN, if those rivits arent there or are the "normal" round ones, your truck will probably get impounded and you'll be goin to court at least.

When I was working at the one body shop we had a car come in that went under the back of a semi trailer and crushed the hood and firewall/dash area. Got the metal from the junkyard. After welding it in we had to have it towed the State Patrol with the old piece and pics/documentation of damage. They swaped the VIN tag, we couldnt do it.

Same here in Illinois. The secretary of state police have to do the swapping. Here we're so lucky to have two state police departments.

Default Swapping out gauge cluster

I posted a question the other day about this, and now have some other questions.

I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 2WD 5.2

Gauge clusters from 98-01 will work from what I have gathered online, but if the gauge cluster was used in either a 5.9 1500, or 2500. 8.0 2500, or 3500. 5.9 Cummins 2500, or 3500, and if they are 4x4 does that matter.
I assume all gauge clusters from any 1998-2001 trucks will interchange. So do I assume correctly?
