Swapping out gauge cluster
I posted a question the other day about this, and now have some other questions.
I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 2WD 5.2
Gauge clusters from 98-01 will work from what I have gathered online, but if the gauge cluster was used in either a 5.9 1500, or 2500. 8.0 2500, or 3500. 5.9 Cummins 2500, or 3500, and if they are 4x4 does that matter.
I assume all gauge clusters from any 1998-2001 trucks will interchange. So do I assume correctly?

Not 100% certain, but let me pass this along before the forum poice show up:
!. Don't start another thread for the same issue. It upsets the forum gods. Your question would still be answered in original thread as any new post moves it to the front of the line.
2. Did you download service and parts manual from FAQ/DIY Section? If not, check that out. Then in the parts manual, find instrum, ent cluster and go to that page. It will list part number and on the right hand side, will indicate which vehciles take which part, or if it is interchangeable with other models, such as gas, diesel, engine size, ste. At the office so I can't look at the moment (I'm supposed too be working....)

Swapping the gauge cluster is technically illegal because on those year trucks (with the digital odometer), the mileage is stored on a chip in the cluster (the PCM increments it). So changing clusters changes the mileage display of your truck. If you report this (there is a DMV form you have to fill out), and make sure it is disclosed if/when you sell the truck, then it is ok. Otherwise if you don't, that is odometer fraud which is actually a felony.
Huh? There is tons of threads in the FAQ/DIY section.
