Default Tranny acting up

I have a 1997 1500 5.9L. First when the truck is warming up I hear some rattling on and off. sounds like it is coming from the tranny/ transfercase area. (its not the cats. cause the cats. are removed). Second, When the truck is still cold it doesn't want to shift to the next gear till about 3000 rpm. This happens through all the gears. once it is warmed up it shifts fine. I'm wondering if the bands need adjusted? Any help would be great.

Probably wouldn't hurt to drop the pan, change fluid and filter, adjust bands, and clean out the governor pressure sensor and solenoid.

right there with ya jrod. debating on whether or not to go ahead and get a new sensor and solenoid or just pull it and clean it. still not sure about the bands though (don't even know what they look like to be honest)

What HeyYou said, drop the pan, clean the gov solenoid and see how it does. I'd also install a drain plug. This way you can easily go back and replace both the Gov solenoid and pressure sensor, if cleaning does not work.

And to know what you need to adjust the bands. Download the correct service manual from the FAQ/DIY section and get a Haynes.,

You won't see the bands, just the adjusting bolts.

So it sounds like you guys are leaning towards sensors and the bands. I'll start checking some of these.

Thanks.
