Yes, someone posted a link for a similar place that is about 50 miles from where I live - $1800. That is probably the way to go, especially if they would install it for $700 or less.

I didn't know a code reader could find transmission codes and that the CEL doesn't come on.

I dropped the pan myself about 100 miles ago when I did the fluid change. There was about 1/4 cup of sludge on the bottom, and a small amount of metal stuck to the magnet

As for $3000 for a rebuild, they are ripping off the consumer (if it is a stock rebuild). Buy from outside the area, ship it in. Even with shipping, the cosxt is better. If truck is OK for now, drive to another market and pick one up.

There is somehting in the name "DIABLO" transmission I suppose......
Their prices could be high, I don't know. I wouldn't say they are a rip off - sometimes you have to pay up for good people to do good work. If they charged high prices and did poor work, that would be a rip off.

yup...and fyi my tranny is being rebuilt right now at a local shop ..$1050 to rebuilt it and warranty it without adding the torque converter (which Is what I believe you need) and the Overdirve unit which was cracked in my case.... so dont let some of the crazy rebuild prices quoted here scare you away from at least getting an estimate. all together with converter and OD unit along with complete rebuild and a gear that drives the planetaries I'm looking at $1,550 before taxes

I know he doesnt have a high opinion of Chrysler transmissions but I cant seem to find anyone who does for that matter...
as far as the fliud there was a guy on here I haven seen in a while who had half a million miles on his ram and stated he had used the dextron 2 stuff since it was rebuilt and it had over 200,000 miles on it since then... I guess if its not mixed and used from the get go? I havent had anyone actually explain to me what the difference is in technology that requires the ATF+4 over other fluids in these transmissions..are the clutches made of different material?. I know many have had failure shortly after switching to something other or mixing types but then again some people claim that just flushing or replacing the fluid with new fluid of the same type will speed up failure so... It seems like voodoo magic with these things sometimes..

Default 2nd gear start off

The truck starts in P and N, but not in R, D, 2, or 1. Haynes says this means the selector is adjust correctly. I crawled under and checked for loose wires. I also checked the transmission fluid and it is full. Years ago, a dealer marked they did a software update.

The truck has about 218,000 miles on it. About 400 miles ago, I replaced the filter and trans fluid (ATF4+).

Any ideas about what part of the transmission may be causing the problem? Can I diagnose this or fix it myself - I can replace parts I can get to from the pan, but am not prepared to remove or rebuild the transmission.

Result limp mode causing 2nd gear start off. I replaced02 scencer and now back to normal.
