Question Front end question.... spacer found!!

Was changing the front rotors and brakes on my '99 V-10 and in the process of taking the old ones off I found a 3mm (I believe it was 3mm)spacer. If memory serves me correctly it was on the drivers side. But it was only on the one side, not both.
Anyway, just curious if this is a factory thing or just common to only V-10's or ??. Have worked on vehicles quite a bit just haven't run into this scenario before. Do these require the spacer or ??. Thanks in advance.

Pics of said spacer? 3mm isn't spit as far as spacers go...... I really don't see the point.

Well that's what I was thinking. It's not exactly a spacer that would be used for rims etc... which is why I thought maybe it was a factory thing for the disc brakes or ??. But only one was there on the dvr's side and not psngr side. Sorry no pic... but it's just a flat ring with the 8 bolt holes in it.

Is it 4wd? Possible that the front axle was/is off center just a tad and that was an easier/cheaper way to "center" the wheels.

Wonder if it was just the remains of the dust shield that should be there.

3mm is a little thick for a dust shield though isn't it?

it may not be a dust shield any more....... Where was it located? Between the hub, and the wheel? Or, the hub, and the knuckle?
