Question moving looking for advice p1740

I am looking to move i about 2 months from florida to oklahoma looking to see what yall think.

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 5.9L gas it is showing a P1740 cel but runs fine. I am thinking about buying an 20ft enclosed car hauler to put my 2006 chevy cobalt ls in as well as house items and loading be bed as much as i can put under my leer camper shell. Do you think it will be fine, or too much weight. Advice PLZ.

I suggest you don't use OD at all on your trip. If you make it without any problems, save some money after the move and have those solenoids replaced or get the tranny rebuilt.

Me personally I would worry more about stopping with that much weight more than anything, definitely be sure you have a brake controller hooked up for the trailor. I may also think about air bags or even air shocks on the rear to help with handling.

The 1500s are only rated for about 7000 pounds for pulling. As long as you don't exceed that and leave the OD off you "should" be fine.

i dont plan on using O/D but will it be ok to use the cruse. as for brake control would not put it on there with out it. AS for rebuild i hope to make it last till i can afford to put a better trans in its place.

parts i have in tool box to install before trip
ball joints
trans cooler
heater core
trans filter
case of atf+4

any thing to add

Well...good luck. That's all I got to say. And hope you don't get caught over overweight.

Check out this chart: http://dodgeram.info/2001/towing-charts.html

by over weight you mean 26,000 lbs

truck is 6600
car is around 3000
trailer of 7000
stuff at most 3000 lbs

puts me at like 19,000 total weight

You should be okay. Give everything a good once over before you go. I pulled a 7x16 high top enclosed trailer to Tennessee and back with the 5.9 and 3.55s. You might want to look into a w/d hitch. I really couldn't tell much difference loaded or unloaded; the aerodynamics of the trailer are what mainly slowed it down at speed. I got about 8 MPG at 60 MPH. I wouldn't use cruise control unless you're not going up any hills because it will probably want to downshift up every little hill.
