Lightbulb magnaflow hi-flow cat with flowmaster 40???

right now i have all stock exhaust. i want something that sounds good and give me more power. i was thinking a magnaflow hi-flow cat and then a dual flowmaster 40 seires muffler. will i loss or gain any torque with this set up? low or high end? if so what effect will it have? will i get better mpg? if anybody has this set up and could help me out, that would be great!

Not enough info to answer your questions. For example how would anyne know which engine your truck has in it or which exhaust pipe diameter you are thinking of running?

i dont think you will gain to much, most likley very little if you keep everything else stock. im pretty sure that the flowmaster 40's series can be restrictive and if you want better flow get a muffler that has less chambers. A guy in the 1st gen Dakota section has a Aeroturbine 3030 muffler and IMHO is the best sounding muffler out there. You will have to do more than the cat and muffler to see gains in performance and MPG like headers and then the muffler and cat, but i could be wrong, ive changed the muffler and cat on mine and there is no gains that i can feel or see

Pipe size sounds about right. I'd predict you'd get a nice bump throughout the RPM band as long as you eliminate the stock y pipe if there is one on there. Can't imagine you'd lose anything anywhere. Re the sound you can google it on youtube and hear lots of mufflers there.

You'd be better off doing a Y-pipe and a set of headers instead of cat and muffler. You can get headers for 120 bucks on eBay

On my truck the biggest gains were from the cat. The headers did a little but not near what the cat did fr me. Note that mine didn't have the crappy factory y on there and that is supposed t be a huge bottleneck.

First mod I did to my to my truck was the muffler swap, couldn't stand that my truck was so gutless on hills, put in a 3" hi-flow and wow! it went up hills so much better with out downshifting. Made a big difference and gained 1mpg. Really helped my low end.
