When I did mine I just pulled the clips off the two lines going into the firewall, put a small tarp over the back side of my motor so the coolant didn't settle on my motor and cut the line with a utility knife from as far back as I could reach to close to the tip of the pipes from the heater core and they came off really easily.. When I put the new one in I just trimmed the hoses so the ends were straight and I had plenty of hose still. Hope this helps some
Oh and a little FYI, make sure ur emergency brake is fully engaged and you block ur wheels because when I dropped the steering column it pulled my shifter down out of gear, just a heads up

You need the tool to separate the lines. Available at any parts store. Are you looking in a manual? or just winging it?

going off of youtube vids and stuff on here.. ive seen people say you don't need to take off the AC lines.. if i did that, id have to release all the freon right? and how much would that be?
i have the box out far enough for the heater core to come out of the top. taking a break before i go back out to pull it out.. it does just pop out the top right?
Read the link I provided, the only way you can replace the heater core without disconnecting the AC is to use the swivel joint heater core. And get a damn Haynes and download the FREE service manuals for the FAQ/DIY section.
