Default Do water pump and timing chain during plenum install?

Does it make sense to replace the water pump and timing chain while doing a plenum fix?

I already have the fan shroud off and the accessory bracket so the pump is right there.

The truck has 120,000 miles on it and never had either replaced.

Whats the average cost of a pump, timing chain and gaskets?

Thanks for all the help.

Yes, yes it does. You ain't gonna get any closer, without actually doing the job anyway.

Water pump is around 35 to 40 bucks. You can get a good double roller timing set for under 50. At 120K miles, your factory morse style chain is pretty stretched, so, cam/injector timing are not exactly where they should be. This is one 'repair' that I did that ended up being a pretty nice little upgrade. The newfound power from JUST that change was amazing.

You keep saying this. So I'm wondering, what was your milage when you changed yours to make this difference?

I never changed mine, don't know if it ever has been. I bought it with 102,000 miles, now sitting about 134,000. I know I need to, I was just wondering what kind of "responce" to expect.

Mine had right around 165K on it when I changed it. (my timing cover started leaking coolant, so.... I was gonna be in there anyway..... so, I changed it. Water pump too.)

I changed mine at 154,000 and it looked like it had been done before but it still made a substantial difference.

Is there a write up anywhere for removing and installing a new chain?

I think there is one in the FAQ/DIY section. There is also a dervice manual you can download there as well.

and +1 (or however many) on changing water pump and timing set while you are there. Won't take that much more time and it will run so much better.

Just curious before I do this.......

When a timing chain breaks or skips what is the damage?

My water pump seems fine and the timing seal is not leaking, just wondering if its worth the $100 or if it may be another 100,00 before it needs to be changed.

Ive had the truck almost since new so I know it has not been touched in the last 100,000 miles or so.
