Default 2001 Ram 1500 fuel pump lock nut

I have a 2001 Ram 1500 that will run for a short while then not start for a day or more. I have a code that says there is a vacuum leak so I checked all hoses and got under to check the gas tank. The plastic lock nut that secures the fuel pump does not look right. Picture this...a jar lid that is not on straight and one side is higher than the other. I am sure the seal is not good here and this is where the code is coming from. I have no idea how this happened. The fuel pump was replaced years ago and has worked great until lately. Anybody else seen this before? I am mechanically challenged on a lot of things, but want to fix this myself if its possible. Any ideas?

You have more than one problem going on there. Your vacuum leak code is prolly referring to the evaporative emissions system. Those are notorious for the lines to dry rot, and crack. Especially back by the charcoal canister, behind the passenger seat. (under the truck.....) Check ALL the lines, front to back, shouldn't be too hard to find.

When the truck doesn't start, need to find out what you are missing, fuel, or spark. (I usually assume that air just isn't a problem........ at least, not on the earth's surface... should be plenty available... )

I kept getting Evap codes and it was the gas cap not sealing. A little vaccuum grease (or vasaline) on the seal and no codes for about 8 months now. Might take a look at that also.
