Default 1994 Ram needs engine

Hi folks, first post here, and really need advice, i have a 94 ram 5.2 that ended up having a scuffed piston and low compression in another, so i thought it would be easier to swap out for another engine. But after much looking around, i cant really find one of that year. so i need a few questions answered for me if you all can help.

1. my engine is a ODBI engine, which i think limits me to 1994-95 engines, i dont care at this point whether or not its a 318 or 360 that gets put in. i haul my boat anyways. but i do have access to lots of say, 2001 318's but i know they are diff computers, can i swap all the sensors? will they fit and keep it odb1?

2. if not, should i just yank my 318 and have it rebuilt? if so, can you guys link me to good complete kits.

3. obviously a newer engine stuffed under the hood is more appealing to me. but what else would be needed to swap than just the comp?

i really have no friggin idea what direction to go. so any help would be greatly appreciated. the truck is old i know, but i like it, and its solid otherwise so i dont want it to go to its grave.

You can use any 5.2L (not to sure if you would need to change your pcm to one for a 5.9L to go that way) from 1994-2001. You would need to use the 1994 intake as it has egr and two temp ports on it. You would need to use all the 1994 OBD1 sensors/electronic parts as well. So find a good long block, fix your plenum swap all the 94 parts over and you are good to go.

so to sum up,, there is no problems using all the 94's sensors, and by swapping the intake, does the heads off of say a 2001 fit with the 94's intake? thought i read somewhere it wouldn't?

Basic long block is exactly the same from I think 93 and up. All of your parts off your 94 will bolt on to any 5.2L 93 and up. (and any 5.9L 93 and up as well.....) Going the 5.9L route would be a nice little boost in power....... just grab the PCM that goes with it.
