Question my transmission will not upshift..need help

i have a 1997 ram 1500 with the 46re transmission. i am having issues with the transmission lately as the truck will stall when put into reverse and when put into drive it will drive and increase speed but will not upshift..i also notice that as soon as i let off the gas the truck doesn't seem to want to go anywhere. to test this theory i started it and put it into reverse..normally when a car is put into reverse it will move on its own..but instead it will just sit there until i press on the gas...next i put it into drive and it also sat there and didn't move until i stepped on the gas..so basically i don't have any upshifts and i have the stalling in reverse..the kicker is that i don't have any trouble codes coming up so it makes me wonder if its something mechanical. i have checked all my cables/linkage and i have already replaced the tcc/overdrive solenoid and that made no difference but i didn't replace the governor pressure solenoid and transducer. i have heard those are easy to replace. i am hoping that will be the fix but i would sure love some other input from folks that have had similar problems. thanks in advance.

you didnt try adjusting the bands or anything prior to this did you? and have you checked for codes or are you looking at the light? it wont turn on the check engine light if its a tranny code. when my torque converter failed it would stall when I put it in gear sometimes and also at stop signs.

Check the condition of the fluid......If it is severly burned, it is common for the cooler in the radiator to stop up..This will cause the torque clutch to engage in reverse and it will stall........Governor solenoid/ sensor are replaced often because of shifting issues, but will not cAUSE a stalling condition....

Well I havnt tried adjusting the bands...and I noticed that when I put it into reverse I can hear what sounds to be a vacuum leak or sound coming from engine area just before it stalls..what vacuum lines control the transmission if any?

None.

Although, if you have a vacuum leak, it can give you some interesting problems. That may be a separate issue from the trans.

if its a whining noise its your tranny...I had that too... you would think a vacum leak would do it all the time?
