Maybe try to adjust your front and rear bands in your trans, do a little search and you should find all the info on how to do that

Almost sounds like your transmission bands are worn/wearing out, I think the front band controls 1 & 2 gear while the rear band controls reverse

What cap (adjusting screw) are you referring to?

TB is not really controlled by ECU (PCM) but by your foot. Only contol is IAC for idle. TPS measures the postion and feeds back to PCM.

I suspect that transmission may be in limp mode. Also, front band may need adjusting.

the adjusting screw for the idle is under the silver cap on the front passenger side of the TB. The cap is gone...they are adjusted at the factory so the cap should be there but mine is gone.
Like I said it feels like the truck is being held back by brakes or a clogged cat. i checked the brakes so its not that. The cat didnt seem to be plugged.
Plenty of power in reverse its just the forward gears that shes a dog.

Limp mode. I take it I have to adjust the bands to get it out of limp mode? Ive never had a problem with my trans or any trans for that matter so this is all new to me. Yes I have heard of the dodge trans problem but it never happened to me.

Limp mode is caused by a sensor failing. Governor pressure solenoid will cause it to not shift right. Drive it and count how many shifts you get. I'm gonna steal the ninja HeyYou's advice and tell you to unplug the 8 wire harness off the trans. Itll have no auto features so you'll have to shift it yourself and see if that's any better.

I dont know if you have found the problem yet but your story sounds very similar to mine.

Long story short. trans started slipping. i bought a new transmission with the works, shift kit ect. installed and seemed like it was starting off in 2nd gear, "no power".
once higher speed it shifted normal but when you stomp on the gas there was no kickdown. or "gitty up and go"

I tried the whole manual shift routine/test, still didnt want to go into first. drove slow off the start, but like yours too, in reverse it was eatin up the pavement like a dragster/ slight exaggeration

checked bands.cables. everything seemed in order, or in spec

I purchased a new govenor pressure sender/sensor and the temp gauge. they make a bigger than stock unit i found it on ebay but im sure they are everywhere. fixed the problem. truck kicks butt now. i have the kickdown and everything back like it was when i first bought it.

to my knowledge the OEM governor pressure unit has a magnet inside it and it collects crap and can cause less pressure. not allowing the transmission to go into first or kickdown.
i would not automatically recommend just replaceing parts without first testing them. i believe there is a way to test this units to see how many volts are going through it to see if it is working properly.

but the new part i bought and used is a bigger pressure sensor and it does not have a magnet inside it, always a plus. So i figured why not and went for it

side note if this didnt work or fix my problem i had the PSI test gauges. and i was going to check every test port on the transmission to see where the problem was.
according to the manual that you can download of the FAQ section it goes over common problems. and the test ports can give you the answers whether its a stuck or misaligned server piston/clutch, or if you have a faulty or offset checkball/valvebody...ect

hope this helps. GOOD LUCK

do you have a link to this part? Im replacing the IAC tomorrow just because of the code deal. I looked up the gov pressure unit but nothing came up for autozone.

thanks
jeff

Sounds exactly like the problem im having.

Is it the transmission gov tcs75 or 22958 from autozone? $103/$134

you would get codes (with no check engine light) if the transmission goes into limp home mode or the solenoids were regularly acting up.... I had the issue with the governor pressure soleniod and usually when they start to plug up they just dont want to shift when they should and you have to flutter the gas pedal and "encourage" it a bit to shift..your band shouldnt cause this problem either ...they dont just stop working right one day.. they have sloppy less firm shifts but still work until they are shot..
the adjustment range is super fine on these transmissions... the shop I went to to have mine rebuild told me If its to the point where they are acting up then they will need replacement in short order not adjusting.... he showed me one and its like a 1/16 of an inch thick as far as clutch material on the band... if you overtighten them however the truck will move a few feet and slow right up like your driving with the brakes on...
and autozone doesnt carry the soleniods or sensors... napa had the sensors for a bit over twice the online price...they are about $200 for the sensor and soleniod at the dealer or you can get the better borg warner one with sensor for less than $100 shipped on ebay (about $50 a piece)... you'll need a new pan gasket and about 4 to 5 quarts of atf+4 too... I bought mine at the dealer the first time and then when that failed 10,000 miles later I bought the borg warner one on ebay...(If they plug up regularly like mine did something else is failing in the tranny)

So you payed for a rebuilt transmission and as soon as it was installed it didn't run right? Then you started working on it instead of having it done through warranty??? That makes absolutely no sense to me...
